Hello everyone! First I'd like to thank you for so many demonstrations of support and encouragement here on DA, and sorry again for not being able to keep up with everything. Since I don't come here very often, it's hard to reply messages in a timely manner, or give permissions in order to be featured around DA. You don't need my permission, dear ones -- features are rather a pleasure and an opportunity for more exposure, so I am the one who has to thank you for them. About messages, I'd rather prefer you to send them to my email solstitium@gmail.com .Facebook is also a great way to keep in touch since I am pretty active there.

As some of you may know, last year, as a way to show my appreciation to my followers and friends, I created the Solstice Giveaways, in which twice a year, on Summer and Winter, I will be giving away an original piece, print, or other item. Although the first one required only an email, I thought that it would be cool to begin asking for a symbolic donation to each participant, so together we could help an institution or person in need. This month I will be giving away an original piece of artwork, at your choice:

"I am half-sick of shadows"

OR

Waterlily

To participate, you just have to purchase one or more e-tickets. Each e-ticket has the symbolic cost of $3.00 USD. The more tickets you purchase, the better are your chances to win. Names will be drawn on June 22nd. Out of the tickets money (after Paypal fees), I’ll take the cost of shipping and the rest will be donated to the family of young Florida student Josie Lou Ratley, who was violently attacked by another student on March this year. She was beaten so violently that she needed intensive care, kept at one point in a medically induced coma. Ratley left the hospital to a rehabilitation facility, and since then she has been relearning such basic skills as how to talk and how to use her arms. Learn more here

In a world where children can treat others in such a brutal way, the same kids who are the future of our society and who will be taking care of us in a few decades, it is of crucial importance that we show them there’s a brighter side. I learned that Josie loved art, and knowing about the healing power of art-making, and imitating the example of our fellow artist Helene Ruiz, my intention is to send her an assorted kit of art materials and other nice things that can show her that the world is not only made of brutality and hate.

If you are interested in participating, you can buy your e-ticket by accessing my blog. Paypal button is on the top of the right column.

THANK YOU and BLESSED BE!

That is terrible. This is one of the worst kinds of things. To think that were it not for this she would be whole and complete...it's just so needless. God.
I think this is a brilliant idea to help people. I would love to buy some tickets for this; I wish you the best of luck, and to Josie too.

I just went to the link and watched some of the news footage. What a horrific thing for everyone involved. I teach art to children of all ages, and this story just breaks my heart.
Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
